This painting came from a plein air paint day with friends over at Hetzel Art Studios and Gallery. Tucked away in a hidden corner of Fletcher Park in Cleveland is a small Japanese Garden where I slipped down into the shadows beneath the cover of a tree and tried to capture the main composition and color values of this scene as the sun beat down and the sweat and insects threatened to distract. I got a great start, and got to paint for about four hours, then took the piece back to the studio to finish it up in a few subsequent sittings. Something about the lush foliage and vibrant colors of Japanese gardens really gets me in an awe inspired state. --lin
